A lightweight polyurethane-carbon microsphere composite foam for electromagnetic shielding

Abstract In this study, we have produced a lightweight foam composite material by simple freeze-drying method, which is composed of carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), mesoporous hollow microspheres (MCHMs), water-based polyurethane (WPU), and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). MCHMs were prepared novel facile method. We found that the electromagnetic shielding performance composites can be adjusted adjusting density composites, enhanced through synergistic effect MWCNTs. The with 232.8042 mg·cm −3 40 wt% MWCNT has δ 30.2 S·m −1 SE 23 dB. After adding 10 to material, reaches 33.2 , 28 Both absorption losses accounted for 70%. increase in content MWCNT, density, introduction all positive on material.

Emerging technology for shielding of electromagnetic radiation using composite materials

This study indicated that multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)-epoxy composites can be used as effective lightweight shielding materials. The measurement results showed that highest EMI SE of 23.4 dB at 8 GHz was obtained for nanocomposite with 1 wt% MWCNTs.
